FAQ

Q: Are there showers at the Main Plant for bike commuters?
A: Showers are coming to Main Plant...Butler bldg, 149....located at entrance 4. They have been working on them, but no ETA as yet. I’m trying to get the info, and when I receive it, I will post. Great question!

Q: Does Rockwell Collins Sponsor teams for Charity event? I’m a cyclist in Houston, Tx work for Rockwell and interested in putting together a team for the 2012 BP MS150 Ride Houston to Austin. Registration is in December, but I wanted to see if Rockwell participates in these type of things before I make an independent team or join another.
A: Thank you for your question. I am looking into the answer and will repost as soon as I get the feedback.

Q: I’m a part of the Rockwell Collins family located in Duluth,GA. I just tried to register and my facility is not listed. I would also be interested in a Rockwell Collins cycling Jersey -- any way to get a hold of one? We have a nice group who rides here in Duluth and this would be a great way to show RC Pride!
A: Hello, I am so sorry I missed this question..... Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I will have our web master add Duluth. If you can for now..click on another location and email me and I will see if i can change it manually. Jersey...we are selling them through the Company Store. Please call us and we will fill it through there. The jerseys are GREAT...$59.95 plus tax/shipping. Call me (Nikki) at 319-295-8519 or the store 319-295-5995. my email is nmnorthr@rockwellcollins.com

Q: Where are showers located at the Cedar Rapids C Ave complex?
A: We do not have showers at the C Ave complex. There are showers in 130 and 193. The Rec Center, located close to C Ave campus, offers showers only for a $10 fee a month, for non rec center members. That may be your best bet. During Bike to Work week, 2010, a BTW rider may shower at the rec center for no charge one time, to see how that would work for them. One of the goals for the Rockwell Collins Bicycling Community (RCBC) is to address the lack of showers in buildings.

Q: How do you commute when it rains? Do you keep a dry change of clothes at work?
A: Richard says: For many bike commuters, rain can be an even bigger challenge than snow and ice. I carry my work clothes in a pannier, inside a large plastic bag. To stay dry on the ride, I’ve bought a rain jacket and pants made out of Propore™. (See link below for information.) They’re a bit thin, so I’d be squeamish about wearing them on a hike through dense underbrush, but they work remarkably well for keeping you dry while being breathable.
Here’s a riding tip -- when zipping through a puddle, I often raise my knees up as far as I can. It looks silly for a moment, but it helps keep my feet much dryer.

Q: Within our miles recording area, we can also track calories burned. How do calories burned relate to pounds lost?
A: 3500 calories = approximately 1 pound

Q: how do i stay in the system after I retire? Do I notify someone with my new address?
A: Our club membership is open to Rockwell Collins, Inc. Employees, Retirees, Contractors, and their Spouses. At your point of retirement, just contact the administrator thru the "Contact Us" line to provide us with your latest info. The administrator will update your registration with your latest email addresses to assure that you are on our mailing list for events and activites.

Q: Can a member post a bike for sale?
A: At the moment, no. Although we have discussed providing a service on the site. I would advise that you utilize the established Rockwell Collins buy/sell/trade to get your widest exposure.

Q: How many events are you planning to sponsor this year?
A: We hope to have an after work bike ride in August and perhaps one in September. We decided not to host one in July with the many who are on vacation, as well as the many who participate at some point in Ragbrai. We will also be having another Lunch and Learn, this one devoted to cooler/cold weather riding. So that would be 3 more events in the works.

Q: Does your club allow membership to those outside of your company?
A: Sorry, no. Our club membership is open only to Rockwell Collins, Inc. Employees, Retirees, Contractors, and their Spouses.
